Matthew McGowan
Solicitor
What is your role and area of expertise?
I am a solicitor in the Wills, Trusts & Estates team, having qualified in March 2024. My role involves drafting wills, probate applications, inheritance tax documents and corresponding with third parties when dealing with the estate of a person who has passed away.
Prior to qualifying, I spent time as a paralegal & trainee in Wills, Trusts & Estates, assisting mainly with preparing wills and lasting powers of attorney.
How do you approach working with clients?
Outcome-driven, but directed by each individual client. My clients should feel their questions have been answered and that they know how their matter will proceed. I also aim to make my clients feel as though they can approach me without hesitation whilst their matter progresses.
Thinking about what will happen when you pass away or dealing with a loved one’s estate whilst grieving their loss can be exhausting and upsetting. My aim is to reassure clients that the team and I are best placed to help in arduous times.
What’s a standout achievement in your career?
Working & studying for my postgraduate qualification at the same time. It was a tough two-year period, but helped me develop so many personal skills.
How do you incorporate Cullimore Dutton’s values?
I change lives by ensuring clients come into a welcoming and reassuring environment where they are comfortable to discuss sensitive topics. I help solve questions in a specialist sector, by which the general public may feel confused or intimidated.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Listening to & making music, cooking and trying to keep active!
