Brenda Spain
Head of Family
What is your role and area of expertise?
My role is Head of the Family Team. I advise in all aspects of Family Law, with particular emphasis on high net worth financial disputes involving businesses, inheritance, trusts, and cases of general complexity. Private children disputes involving internal and international re-location, high net worth, and post nuptial agreements.
How do you approach working with clients?
What I can offer clients is a wealth of experience and a calm and focussed way forward. Each case, and each client, is different. It is important to always listen carefully, deal with immediate concerns, also to be solution focused as soon as possible. To answer their individual concerns, and from the outset, to offer the highest level of care which demonstrates that we care. To demonstrate that we will support them throughout one of the worst times of their life. That we are always there to support them and to be available for them and will go the extra mile for them when needed.
What’s a standout achievement in your career?
I have been fortunate to have had a long career and been involved in some high profile cases, complex cases, from which I have gained a wealth of experience. I have had the pleasure of working with many great people within the legal profession and professionals from other professions.I have had the great pleasure of receiving wonderful referrals and recommendations from clients and professionals alike over the years.
How do you incorporate Cullimore Dutton’s values?
I work really hard to ensure clients are assured of the complete commitment and that every individual matters, no matter what their circumstances are. Nothing is too much trouble and when we have to go the extra mile, we will do so to the very best of our ability. That applies to my colleagues here at Cullimore Dutton as well. I am committed to being part of the future growth of the business and of the family team, where I am keen to offer support, guidance and opportunity to those in the early stages of their legal career in particular. As a training principle over many years, I have taken great pleasure seeing individuals progress into excellent solicitors, legal executives, paralegals, barristers, etc.and to make their mark on the legal community. It is important to me that my colleagues throughout the business feel supported and that all those at a senior level are approachable and helpful. Although local, I have spent many years practicing in the West Midlands. Having returned “home” and I am really keen to get to know as many people within the Chester business community as possible.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I spend many long hours on long walks on beaches or the Cotswolds with my labradors, family and friends, who are very much my focus. Those who know me, know I like a good natter, which must be the Liverpudlian in me (by the way, I am the Red side of the city).I have a passion for music and theatre and sport.I have also had the pleasure, over many years, of working with various Charities, of all descriptions, to try and make a difference by helping either the Charity, or those the Charity is there to support.
